Beatburger Bites Back 2011 PosterOur Adelaide Fringe audio-visual electronic music performance Beatburger Bites Back has officially wrapped for 2011, and it’s time to pass some well-deserved gratitude on to our event partners. Bang & Olufsen and Hotel Tivoli were our principal partners, providing their facilities and products to allow us to create a relaxing, hi-fidelity late night lounge environment. The venue’s restaurant space’s soundproofing created ideal conditions for Bang & Olufsen’s BeoLab 9 speakers to sound their best. Another important late addition partner was ANZ Office Furniture, who provided us with affordable rental on a set of partitions (which were duely converted into projector screens) and two heavy-duty plinths on which to sit the Beolab 9 speakers. Naturally, we extend our gratitude to include all of the artists and volunteers who helped make the event possible… for videos from the events, including links to photos from Feb 26 and March 5 shows, visit supermarketbeats.com.

  • Beatburger Bites Back presents original electronic beats & visuals at Adelaide Fringe 2011

After the steaming success of last year’s Beatburger at Arcade Lane, Beatburger has truly bitten back at Adelaide Fringe in 2011. The first of two unique shows invaded the main room of Hotel Tivoli on Saturday night, sparking up three screens of live video mix, a Bang & Olufsen sound system and three talented acts offering rare live performances. First up was local scene long-time contributor Pete Kolomitsev performing as PhaseLockLoop, followed by special guest Ulrick Eck from Spielkinder who took the night from Pete’s tapestry of sounds and beats in a funky minimal techno direction. Supermarket followed our their quirky breakbeat sounds and hijacked advertisements. The original Beatburger show featured Supermarket alongside local Adelaide live act Atomitek and was nominated for two Adelaide Fringe Awards, including Best Music Event. Attendees to Beatburger Bites Back were quick to send us positive feedback after the show, complimenting the crowd’s warm and relaxed vibe and the intimacy and originality of the night’s entertainment. If you missed the show or want another dose, the coming March 5th show features guest hip hop crew d33p h33t and disco-punk showman Tomas Ford letting loose along with your hosts, Supermarket. There’s also a special Beatburger Bites Back video playlist waiting for your viewing and listening pleasure, live on youtube.

Dan Monceaux has been invited by South Australian artist, writer and curator David Jobling to speak on a panel at the inaugural ‘Spoke’ Adelaide Fringe Word Festival. A celebration of the written word in all its forms, the event will be opened by Robyn Archer at 6:30pm on February 22nd at the Adelaide College of the Arts on Light Square. The first panel ‘Spoke goes virtual’ follows from 7-8.30pm, with danimations and a grab bag of local arts practitioners sharing their knowledge and experience. Dan will discuss the variety of digital communications methods and tools danimations uses, particularly in relation to our (ironically) non-verbal fringe audio-visual show, Beatburger Bites Back.
Spoke Festival Logo 2011 Dan will discuss communication techniques and styles across facebook, twitter, blogging and more, and show some sneak previews and promotional materials from the forthcoming show. Panels, workshops and presentations run until Friday, Feb 25th, including sessions on poetry, improvisation, writing for children, hip hop and writing for theatre. The event is free to attend, with the full program available here.
