'A Shift in Perception' is a 16 minute humanistic documentary film loaded with visual poetry and an air of nostalgia. Enter the worlds of Leander, Edna and Rhonda- three vision-impaired women from South Australia. Join them as they lead you through their daily lives, dreams, fears and observations. Shot on Super8 film in predominantly black and white, a broad range of camera techniques (including stop-motion animation) have been employed to engage the imagination and playfully illustrate their beautifully unique perspectives.

Initially installed as part of the 'Living Dreams' exhibition at Higher Ground, the work is currently appearing at film festivals around the world, and is being warmly received. 'Living Dreams' was the title of the original Community Cultural Development project initiated by the City of Port Adelaide Enfield for which still photographic and moving image works (including this film) were created.

RELATED EVENTS:

Guest Lecture @ University of South Australia
'A Shift in Perception'
From idea to accolades
Magill Campus, Adelaide, Room C1-79
Jun. 4, 2007 @ 5.30-6.30pm

Speaker was director Dan Monceaux.

"Hear the story of the independent development of a leftfield idea to celebrated international screen success. The director outlines every step the film has taken from its genesis to its string of overseas screenings, with an emphasis on the exciting potential of cinema fueled by passion, not fashion. Sit back, tune in and let Dan rekindle your independent spirit."

Australian International Documentary Conference Seminar: Perspective on Alternative Voices
Hyatt Hotel, Adelaide, Balcony 3 & 4
Feb. 26, 2007 @ 11am

Speakers were Dan Monceaux, Safina Uberoi,
Khee-Jin Ng & Bruni Burres.

"The boundaries of Australian documentary form and content are increasingly being pushed by people working outside traditional funding structures. Who are these film makers? What are they trying to say?"

"This is not a session about “how to get your film made even if the Broadcasters don't give you the money”, this is about the creative and cultural imperatives of truly independent film making. "
