Premiering in February of 2009 as part of the Bigpond Adelaide Film Festival, ‘Lateral Movement’ proved a sparkling event for experimental screen culture in Adelaide, Australia. Two nights of cinema screening of experimental films and an exhibition of installed moving image artwork in the foyer of the Mercury Cinema were well received. While interned as the Media Resource Centre’s ‘Curators in Residence’, Emma Sterling and Dan Monceaux hand-selected contemporary work for installation and exhibition. Toby Bramwell curated a night of Post-War experimental cinema from well-established and reknown international artists. Highlights included a live in-cinema Skype chat with filmmaker Lee Citron after his film, and spectacular high-definition projections from the Mercury’s state-of-the-art 4K cinema projector. We are pleased to announce that Lateral Movement will now be an annual event.
